Construction includes a wide range of trades and all stages of the building process - design, drafting, electrical, plumbing, cabinetmaking, and more. From tiny houses on wheels to multi-story apartment buildings, the resources listed in this guide will be useful to anyone enrolled in construction technology courses and programs, anyone pursuing a research project on related topics, or anyone with a personal interest in construction.
When you're working on a project, you need to find reliable information, which means you need to use terms that relate to your topic to find information sources - but you also need to be flexible. Combining multiple terms will help you find sources that are more closely focused on your specific topic.
These are samples of terms to use for construction and related trades. Other terms may be useful as well. Use specific words, but only use one or two word phrases - not whole sentences! Try both plural and singular forms, and try varying combinations.
The search terms listed above can be used in Google, but you'll find more reliable and authoritative sources searching in the library's OneSearch catalog - or in Credo Reference, an online collection of reference and research sources. You can search Credo's Technology & Engineering references (which include many construction-related sources) by typing your terms into the box below.
