This page lists useful resources relating to the study of human sexuality from the perspective of the medical sciences. Biology, health, and medical sciences typically approach the subject of sexuality based on physical or biological factors such as hormones, physical sexual features and characteristics, mechanics of sexual functioning, and the role of evolution or genetic selection.
Credo Reference has a broad array of online reference books and other resources that may be of use in your research. Entering your search terms into the box below will selectively search for materials in the fields of Health and Medicine.
The following databases are available through the library, and may be particularly useful for finding articles relating to this topic. To retrieve more useful material, you may want to combine the specific aspect of human sexuality that you're researching with words or phrases such as "biology", "anatomy", "physiological aspects".
Reference books include encyclopedias, handbooks, manuals, guides, dictionaries, and compilations of resources such as primary documents. Reference books will provide a good overview of your topic, in a short and well organized way, and are good for getting started with any research assignment.
Printed reference materials must be used in the library, but usually you will only need to consult these sources briefly.
Print books in the General and Oversize Book collections can be borrowed for three weeks and renewed for another three weeks. Books are filed in alpha-number order on the shelves by call number. Ask for help if you can't find the book.
Books listed below with links are e-books. E-books are listed in OneSearch along with the library's printed books, and can be used for research exactly the same way you would use a traditional book. You can limit your search to e-books by selecting "book" as the resource type, and selecting availability of "online". Most e-books allow you to print or download a certain number of pages to your device, but how many varies from one publisher to another. You may be asked to log in using your student ID number to read an e-book.
Please keep in mind that this is only a partial selection of the books available in OneSearch!
