Del Norte county is the area that is traditionally and continually occupied by the native peoples currently called the Yurok and Tolowa Dee-ni’. Del Norte county was organized into a county in 1857. This guide includes resources from books, libraries, museums, and special collections that may help students with research on Del Norte County history.

Del Norte County Historical Museum
The Del Norte County Histotrical Society runs two museums. The main museum is located at 577 H Street. The Museum is usually open to the public May through September from 10 AM to 4 PM, Monday through Saturday. October through April the Museum is open Mondays and Satrudays from 10 AM to 4 PM. The Museum is currently closed due to Pandemic Restrictions.

Battery Point Lighthouse and Museum are located at the foot of A Street in Crescent City, California. This is an active lighthouse that serves as a private aid to navigation. The Lighthouse is usually open April through September, tides permitting, between the hours of 10 AM and 4 PM, every day. October through March, tides permitting, the lighthouse is usually open 10 AM to 4 PM on weekends only. The lighthouse tour is currently closed to due Pandemic Restrictions. During low tide, you are permitted to walk up to and walk around the lighthouse. However, no tours are possible.
