Forestry is the science of managing forested lands. This can include the waters (rivers, streams, etc.) that occur in forested lands, wildlife, and human activities. Forestry can have a commercial orientation that focuses on forest maintenance for-profit use or it can be based on conservation and ecological principles that are focused on preservation of wildlife and future generations. Some forestry endeavors try to integrate both approaches. The concepts of forestry are ancient with some of the oldest known managed forests dating back to the ancient Romans (Encyclopedia Britannica, 2020).

Check the Forestry and Natural Resource department's website for more information about the degrees offered and a complete list and other programs available. Other classes in Biology, Business, Math, and Environmental Studies may be taken as part of this certificate. Check with a counselor to see what classes are currently required for these degrees.
