Local History - Del Norte

The Del Norte County Histotrical Society runs two museums. The main museum is located at 577 H Street. The Museum is usually open to the public May through September from 10 AM to 4 PM, Monday through Saturday. October through April the Museum is open Mondays and Satrudays from 10 AM to 4 PM. The Museum is currently closed due to Pandemic Restrictions.

Battery Point Lighthouse and Museum are located at the foot of A Street in Crescent City, California. This is an active lighthouse that serves as a private aid to navigation. The Lighthouse is usually open April through September, tides permitting, between the hours of 10 AM and 4 PM, every day. October through March, tides permitting, the lighthouse is usually open 10 AM to 4 PM on weekends only. The lighthouse tour is currently closed to due Pandemic Restrictions. During low tide, you are permitted to walk up to and walk around the lighthouse. However, no tours are possible.

The End of the Trail Museum is attached to the north end of the Trees of Mystery gift shop and is one of the largest privately owned museums specializing in Native American artifacts . The museum is organized into six rooms of specific interest. The entrance and gallery is devoted to a collection of baby carriers from all over. Also on display here are many of the animals used by the tribes for food and raw materials for crafts, clothing and shelter. The other five rooms in the museum are organized by geographic area, rather than tribal affiliation.
