Cultural Competency in Curriculum Discussions

Cultural Competency in Curriculum

Please join us for a series of conversations facilitated by Gene Holloway in response to President Flamer’s 2020-21 goal to “encourage the faculty to look comprehensively at inclusivity and cultural competency in curriculum.”

Through this dialog, Mr. Holloway will help us work toward the following goals:

·    Develop a shared understanding of what inclusivity and cultural competency can mean in relation to curriculum.

·    Explore what "curriculum" means in this context, i.e., official course outline vs. the course-as-delivered.

·    Examine examples of CR curriculum that reflect culturally responsive design.

·    Cultivate constructive dialog between faculty who have different perspectives on what constitutes "best practice" in this arena.

·    Discover the different perspectives and assets that faculty bring to the table at CR.

·    Establish a framework for networking and mutual support for faculty who wish to dive deeper into these concepts in relation to their curriculum or teaching practice.

·    Consider what we might construct as an agreed-upon statement that expresses respect for all cultures.

·    Identify deficits or challenges that can drive appropriate CR-specific forms of professional development for teaching practice and curricular design.
